**Review of June 2019**
June 2019 was a time when I once again experienced the effects of corruption and abuse of power in our community. It was a period filled with disappointments, but also a renewed determination to fight for change. My posts this month were aimed at all those who were tired of having their voices ignored. I want to share my thoughts with you through this review – to show you that together we can stand up for a better future. It was a time when we all needed to show a little more courage.
The progress of the Eurovelo 6 project took an unexpected turn. While I continued to work towards improving the infrastructure and supporting international cycling tourism, I once again encountered the lack of cooperation from local authorities that hindered my efforts. The idea of putting Rasova on the map of international cycling tourism was hindered not only by a lack of support but also by deliberate sabotage by people in positions of power. Nevertheless, I did not give up. It is important to me to continue pursuing the vision of a safe and attractive route along the Danube, even if progress seems small at the moment. More than ever, I felt that it is ultimately the people on the ground who determine the success of such a project.
June also showed us again how the disregard for environmental standards endangers our community. I particularly remember the issue of contaminated groundwater in Cochirleni. It was found that the nitrate levels in the drinking water were far above the permitted limits, posing a serious health risk to the residents. Despite my warnings and complaints to the responsible authority, the response was indifferent. I couldn’t understand why no measures were taken to improve the situation. Instead, funds were spent on fireworks rather than taking the urgently needed steps to improve people’s living conditions. Putting an end to environmental pollution and protecting people’s health was one of the most pressing issues this month. My goal is to create a broad movement that stands up for the environment and opposes the authorities’ indifference.
Once again, I realized how deeply rooted corruption is in our community. Those who had the courage to speak out publicly against the injustices were intimidated and threatened. It became clear that the structures of power are designed to suppress any opposition. Particularly disheartening was the situation regarding the sewer connection, which became unaffordable for many citizens because the required fees were far too high. The authorities continued to rely on non-transparency, making it clear that they had no interest in improving the living conditions in Rasova. But this is precisely what motivates me to keep going. I firmly believe that through solidarity and determination, we can make a difference. My posts were meant to encourage citizens to raise their voices and stand up against the abuses together. The fight for justice is far from over, but I am confident that we are on the right path.
