Frustration, Hope, and Small Victories – The Ongoing Fight for Change
April 2019 was marked by both frustration and hope in an ongoing fight against a corrupt system. I witnessed how the law was being manipulated to favor the interests of those who disregarded the rules, while the police and prosecutor’s office continued to ignore my cases. Witnesses were intimidated, and access to essential documents was systematically blocked, making it difficult to achieve justice.
This month, I managed to gather more evidence regarding the misuse of public funds and filed several complaints with different authorities. I also had meetings with the Prefecture of Constanța to discuss the state of the environment and the local administration’s negligence in waste management. Despite the obstacles faced and the reluctance of the authorities to act, I succeeded in getting a sanction against the mayor, which gave me a glimmer of hope. In April, I also organized a series of meetings with the residents of Rasova to discuss common issues and how we could face the pressures from the local authorities. These meetings were essential in building solidarity within the community and encouraging people to make their voices heard. Even though the pressure on me increased, the support I received from my neighbors motivated me to continue the fight for transparency and justice. April 2019 was thus a period of challenges, but also of small victories that showed that, together, we could bring about the change we wanted in Rasova. The fight for fair governance and environmental protection continues, and the involvement of every community member is crucial.
